All the practical skills students need to succeed as professional musicians—in a single pedagogical program.

The Musician’s Guide to Aural Skills integrates all critical aural skills in a single teaching and learning program coordinated (chapter by chapter) with a companion text in theory and analysis. The two volumes, organized by skill type, contain a wide range of exercises, and a diverse repertoire of real music—classical, popular song, film and TV themes, folk songs. There is absolutely no need for supplementary materials, and students are involved in creative music-making from the very beginning.

Volume 2 develops listening and writing skills in a complete ear-training, dictation, and composition manual. Each of the 40 chapters, corresponding to chapters in The Musician’s Guide to Theory and Analysis, Second Edition, is organized in two parts—“Inductive Listening” and “Contextual Listening.” A final “Composition” section leads students through individual and group compositions in a variety of styles. The text is packaged with a companion DVD that contains recordings for all the listening examples.

Many DJs, gigging musicians, and electronic music producers understand how to play their instruments or make music on the computer, but they lack the basic knowledge of music theory needed to take their music-making to the next level and compose truly professional tracks. Beneath all the enormously different styles of modern electronic music lie certain fundamentals of the musical language that are exactly the same no matter what kind of music you write. It is very important to acquire an understanding of these fundamentals if you are to develop as a musician and music producer. Put simply, you need to know what you are doing with regard to the music that you are writing. Music Theory for Computer Musicians explains these music theory fundamentals in the most simple and accessible way possible. Concepts are taught using the MIDI keyboard environment and today's computer composing and recording software. By reading this book and following the exercises contained within it, you, the aspiring music producer/computer musician, will find yourself making great progress toward understanding and using these fundamentals of the music language. The result will be a great improvement in your ability to write and produce your own original music!

Definitive in scope and written specifically for musicians and songwriters by top professionals currently working in the industry, this book demystifies the music business and the indecipherable body of law which shapes it, and provides substantive information on actual practices--with clause-by-clause commentaries on all major contracts in the industry. Requires no background in law or business and is written in plain English, not "legalese. Includes relevant forms. Follows the typical development of a musician's career--Getting Started, Music as a Business; Protecting Your Compositions; Music Publishing; Performing and Marketing; Managers and Agents; and Recording. Features up-to-date internet-related coverage (including full chapters on Digital Distribution of Music Over the Internet: Legal Issues; International Copyright Issues; and Artist Rights). An appendix includes names; URL and mailing addresses of major industry associations and organizations; a list of the important industry publications. For musicians.

!1: Best Buy This book is an absolute must have for musicians. It is a "how-to" manual for musicians. I STRONLY advice never signing any contract or enter into any deal, as a musician, until you have read this book!!!!! It has saved my @$&@ more than once. Whether you are just playing gigs at bars and clubs, recording at home, or trying to go big, this book can be used as a stand alone road map. I have been using the first edition since the early 90's and just decided to purchase the 4th. This version is even better than the first because now it has been updated for the digital age. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. One browse through its pages and you will quickly realize the gem you hold in you hands. I must sound like a spoke person for the book, but I really believe in its value. on Sale!
